Hyderabad to Shamshabad The Story ... Part 2

The city which was founded by Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah, was originally called Bhagyanagar. Later during the rule of the Nizams it was named Hyderabad.

Do you know why Hyderabad was called Hyderabad. Well one of the
Nizams had a queen by name Hyder Mahal, and the city was named after her.

During the times of the seventh Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan, Hyderabad was one of the richest states in the world. It had its own Railways, Postal service, own currency and even a University.

The people at that time were very proud of their culture and heritage. Hindus, Muslims, Christians and people of all faith and culture lived peacefully.
There was harmony everywhere.

The City has a twin-sister (or a twin brother if you wish ) named Secunderabad. The city of Hyderabad and Secunderabad is more popularly known as twin cities. Both the cities are divided by a lake, which is man made, known as Hussain sagar. The sight of sun set at Hussain sagar is a great experience.

The characteristic of this city even today is very distinct and unique. It is beautiful, it is ancient, it is historical and at the same time it is equally modern.

It has many historical monuments. Mosques, Temples and Churches are aplenty. Old
Havalies, Palaces and Mansions which were abundant in Hyderabad have now given way to Malls, Multi-plex and multi-storied residential and commercial complexes.

Charminar the historical monument was built after plague was eradicated from the city.

  • Hyderabad's fame, geographical location and Golconda's wealth attracted Moghul Emperor Aurengzeb who captured Golconda after a long battle in 1687.
